BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thai government has reestablished the Special Task Force for the Thai–Cambodian border to ensure continuity in managing border affairs after the previous order lapsed with the change in the Prime Minister.
Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, acting on behalf of the Prime Minister, signed Prime Minister’s Office Order No. 275/2568 on August 30, 2025, creating the new task force. The center will be led by the Deputy Minister of Defense, with the Secretary-General of the National Security Council, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior serving as deputy directors. Senior representatives from security agencies, the armed forces, police, public relations, intelligence, and other relevant experts will also participate as members and secretaries.
The center’s responsibilities include closely monitoring, analyzing, and assessing border conditions, advising the National Security Council and Cabinet, coordinating operations among all relevant agencies, providing accurate public information, establishing subcommittees or working groups as needed, and reporting regularly to authorities. All operations must adhere to peaceful conflict resolution principles, respecting Thailand’s sovereignty and territorial integrity without third-party interference.
Government agencies and state enterprises are required to cooperate with the task force, providing necessary documentation and information, while the National Security Council handles administrative, structural, reporting, and evaluation tasks. Once the border situation returns to normal, the director must report to the Prime Minister for the cancellation of the order.
The order took effect on August 30, 2025. (TNA)
