Acting PM Phumtham Wechayachai orders swift replacements for retiring officials and mandates three-month performance reviews to prevent policy delays and maintain government momentum.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thai administration is moving to prevent bureaucratic delays by expediting new appointments and instituting three-month performance reviews for civil servants ahead of a major retirement wave.

Government Spokesperson Jirayu Houngsub announced that acting Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Phumtham Wechayachai has instructed all ministries to act swiftly. Ministers must survey officials who are set to retire and accelerate the appointment of their successors.

A large number of high and mid-level civil servants are due to retire on October 1st. The acting prime minister has mandated that the appointment process for capable and dedicated replacements be completed before the end of September. Positions requiring cabinet approval must also be submitted promptly to ensure a seamless continuation of policy implementation.

The government has urged senior officials, from permanent secretaries down, to avoid becoming inactive before retirement. Mr. Phumtham warned against a “wait-and-see” attitude, stressing that the country must move forward every day without stopping.

To ensure progress, the government will review the performance of various departments at least once every three months. This measure aims to drive key policies and foster national development amidst current economic and geopolitical challenges. (NNT)
