BANGKOK, 7 January 2013 By the end of January, Thai expats living in the US and Germany will be able to get their Thai identification cards renewed or replaced at the Thai embassy or consulate in New York and Berlin.

The Thai Embassy in New York and the Thai Consulate in Berlin will be the latest Thai offices abroad to offer the ID card renewal and replacement services to Thai expats. The service, which has been provided to Thais living in Los Angeles, Taipei, Sydney, and Singapore, will be available to Thais residing in Germany and the US within this month.

Thai expats will be able to renew their ID cards or have them replaced if they are lost or damaged; however, the issuance of identification cards for first-time applicants is not included in the service overseas. Those who seek to avail themselves of the services must have owned a Thai ID card before and must reside in those countries.

In 2013, the government has planned to offer this service at 16 other cities in 14 countries, including Washington D.C., Frankfurt, London, The Hague, Rome, and Paris.
