BANGKOK, Thailand – Ongoing clashes between Thai and Cambodian troops near the Chong Sai Taku checkpoint in Chanthabphet Subdistrict, Ban Kruat District, Buriram Province, have continued, with Cambodian forces reportedly opening fire first in every engagement, July 27.

A recent video circulating online shows a Cambodian casino building near the border being struck by Thai artillery fire, with thick smoke billowing from the structure. Local residents believe the artillery shells were fired by Thai soldiers as a warning response to relentless Cambodian attacks.

Nijcharin, a 48-year-old resident of Ban Kruat District, said the fighting in the area happens frequently, with Cambodian troops initiating the gunfire every time. He expressed that when locals saw the video of the casino being hit, they felt pleased and wished the building would be completely destroyed. He criticized the casino as a harmful influence on the community, noting that the majority of the gamblers there were Thai nationals crossing the border to play.

The ongoing tension at the border remains tense as the Thai military continues to respond to Cambodian attacks, aiming to defend sovereignty and protect the safety of local residents.
