Royal Thai Army says Cambodia is using staged provocations and media narratives to portray Thailand as the aggressor, urging a measured response combining diplomacy, political action, and military vigilance to protect sovereignty.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Royal Thai Army has warned that Cambodia is using deliberate tactics along the border to shape a narrative that portrays Thailand as the aggressor. Army spokesperson Maj Gen Winthai Suvaree said Cambodian forces continue to maintain positions in sensitive areas while engaging in actions that violate ceasefire agreements, including planting landmines, provocative use of weapons, and deploying reconnaissance drones.

According to the Army, these activities are intended to provoke a Thai military response that could then be presented as evidence in international forums. By staging scenarios and controlling the narrative through the media, Cambodia seeks to cast itself as a victim while undermining Thailand’s reputation.

The Army stressed that defending sovereignty requires more than military force alone. Officials stated that an integrated approach, combining diplomacy, political action, and clear communication with both domestic and international audiences, is essential to counter misinformation and safeguard national interests.

Maj Gen Winthai said the 1st and 2nd Army Areas continue to maintain vigilance on the frontline while ensuring safety for civilians in nearby areas. Military and civil administration units are prepared to respond quickly in the event that the situation escalates.

The Army also urged the public to be cautious about information circulating online that could pressure Thailand into premature military action. Military leaders reiterated that every response must be carefully weighed to ensure conditions remain favorable for protecting national security and achieving a positive outcome. (NNT)
