Three live PMN-1 landmines, remnants of past border conflicts, were safely removed by the Burapha Task Force in Khok Sung District as Thailand renews calls for cross-border cooperation in de-mining efforts.

SA KAEO, Thailand – The Royal Thai Army reported that three PMN-1 anti-personnel landmines were discovered in Nong Ya Kaeo Village, Khok Sung District, Sa Kaeo Province, during an ongoing clearance operation by the Burapha Task Force. Although the mines were old, they remained active. The explosive ordnance disposal team successfully removed them following strict safety protocols.

The mines are believed to be remnants from past conflicts along the Thai-Cambodian border. Clearance operations at the time could not be fully completed because Cambodian authorities did not allow Thai personnel to access certain areas. Examination of the recovered explosives confirmed that they originated from the Cambodian side.

The discovery highlights the ongoing need for both countries to cooperate in landmine clearance, as reaffirmed in the General Border Committee (GBC) meeting on September 10, 2025. Thailand has pledged to continue its de-mining mission, even without Cambodia’s participation, to ensure the safety of border communities and uphold humanitarian principles. (NNT)
