The Second Army Area has accused Cambodian soldiers of violating the August 7 ceasefire agreement after detecting landmines near Ta Kwai Temple; evacuation centers, volunteer aid, and security reinforcements are now in place to protect border communities.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Second Army Area has reported a security incident along the Thai–Cambodian border. At approximately 2:30 p.m. on September 9, 2025, the 1st Light Weapons Company of the 27th Infantry Battalion detected Cambodian soldiers violating the ceasefire agreement signed during the General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting in Kuala Lumpur on August 7, 2025. The actions were found to be in breach of Articles 1 and 4 of the agreement.

During an inspection in the Chong Tik Bo area, west of Ta Kwai Temple, troops discovered four unidentified landmines resembling the MD-82B type. Mine detectors also signaled the possible presence of a fifth mine nearby. The mines were located approximately three meters inside the Thai tactical wire fence, in a zone frequently used by Cambodian patrols to approach Thai positions.

In response, government agencies, private organizations, and local communities have coordinated efforts to assist civilians living in high-risk areas. One evacuation center in Surin Province is currently hosting two evacuees. Security forces have also deployed village defense units to protect the homes and property of displaced residents.

Meanwhile, the Royal Volunteer Center in Sisaket Province, in collaboration with government agencies and local volunteers, organized morale-boosting activities. Essential goods and food supplies were delivered to army and border patrol police personnel stationed at Khao Phra Wihan National Park in Kantharalak District.

The Second Army Area is advising the public to rely solely on official communication channels issued by responsible authorities to avoid misinformation and ensure access to timely, accurate updates. (NNT)
