Thai Army chief to attend ACAMM in Hanoi

BANGKOK, Nov 21 — Army Commander-in-Chief Gen Udomdej Sitabutr next week will attend a five-day ASEAN Chiefs of Armies Multilateral Meeting (ACAMM) in Hanoi, aimed at strengthening army relations among members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Deputy Army Spokesperson Col Sirichan Nga-thong  said today.

Col Sirichan said the 15th ACAMM will be held November 25 -29 and would give an opportunity to ASEAN army commander to exchange views and strengthen relations between member countries.

She said the major topic of the meeting is ‘Building a cooperation of ASEAN armies in tackling Different Forms of Danger.’

Gen Udomdej will also pay a courtesy call on Vietnamese Defence Minister Gen Phung Quang Thanh while attending the meeting, she said.

The ACAMM was initiated by the Thai army in 2000.

The Thai army has organized such meetings twice in the past, the spokeswoman added.
