BANGKOK, Thailand – Thai Airways International is expected to appoint a new chief executive by the end of 2026, with six of nine applicants already interviewed, according to Finance Ministry Permanent Secretary Lavaron Sangsnit.

Speaking at Government House on October 20, Lavaron, who chairs the airline’s board, said the recruitment process was under way. Six candidates attended interviews on October 18, and the airline expects to have its new chief executive in place by December. Lavaron was also asked about a possible increase in excise tax on electric vehicles (EVs), including reports of a rate of 30 per cent.
