BANGKOK, Thailand – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is promoting Mor Lam, the traditional folk performance of the Northeast, as a cultural draw that connects visitors with local identity and storytelling. Known for its energetic rhythms, lyrical narratives, and sharp social commentary, Mor Lam represents the humor, values, and creativity of Northeastern Thai communities. The traditional performance continues to attract both domestic and international tourists, contributing to local economies and promoting travel throughout the year.

TAT’s “Mor Lam Festival” will take place at two venues this September. Roi Et province will host the first event from September 19 to 21, followed by Udon Thani from September 26 to 28. The festival is organized under the concept of “5 Must Do in Thailand,” encouraging visitors to enjoy Thai food, shop for local products, and participate in traditional festivals.

The program features performances by leading Mor Lam and luk thung troupes, as well as T-POP artists such as Bamm, Instinct, Yes’sir Days, Slapkiss, and Kylinz. Visitors will also enjoy a wide range of regional dishes, from street food to fusion cuisine prepared with locally sourced ingredients. Activities include craft workshops, souvenir markets, and travel promotions to further encourage tourism in the Isan region.

The festival incorporates environmental awareness through practices such as using eco-friendly containers, sustainable packaging, and waste-reduction measures. Hands-on workshops will teach visitors how to create bags from fabric scraps, use natural dyes, and craft items from organic materials, supporting both traditional skills and sustainability.

Entry to the festival is free, and attendees can win prizes including hotel stays, restaurant vouchers, and travel packages valued at over 300,000 baht. The event is open daily from 5:00 p.m. to midnight. Additional information is available on Facebook via the Mor Lam Festival page, TAT Khonkaen Fanpage, TAT Udon Thani Office, Travel Isan, or by calling the 1672 Travel Buddy hotline. (NNT)
