TAIPEI – The Taiwanese government will distribute NT$10,000 (about 10,622 baht) in cash to all eligible residents, including foreign spouses and foreign nationals with permanent residency, in a move to stimulate consumption. The funds come from record-high tax revenue collected last year, exceeding the government’s target.
Eligible recipients must register starting November 5. Cash distributions will begin via registered bank accounts on November 12, with withdrawals possible at ATMs of 15 banks from November 17, and at post offices from November 24.
The one-time cash handout follows approval of a special government budget aimed at strengthening national economic, social, and public resilience in the face of international uncertainties. A total of NT$236 billion (around 250.7 billion baht) will be distributed, drawn from the NT$528.3 billion collected in excess tax revenue in 2024.
Taiwan’s Deputy Finance Minister projects that this cash distribution could boost the nation’s GDP by approximately 0.415 percent, according to statistics from the National Development Council. (TNA)
