BANGKOK, 27 June 2012– The Office of the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) and the Thailand Environment Institute (TEI) are set to establish a sustainable natural disaster prevention strategy.

NRCT Secretary-General Soottiporn Chittmittrapap said that the NRCT has signed an MoU with the TEI to promptly establish an environmental strategy to determine the direction of environmental researches in Thailand, given the increasing tendency of natural disaster occurrences caused by the excessive use of natural resources. Data and direct experiences are being compiled to devise a strategy aimed at the efficient prevention of natural disasters as well as relief efforts for victims.

The two agencies will compile data on the environment and climatic change from related agencies nationwide, before presenting the results to the government as a proposed guideline to sustainably prevent and resolve natural disasters in the future.
