Southern Thailand flood emergency as Pattani and Satun submerged by relentless rain

Rising waters exceeding 50 centimetres leave Pattani streets underwater with all 12 districts flooded and more than 200,000 residents affected while the crisis spreads to Satun inundating markets 20 communities and forcing over 80 schools to close.

PATTANI, Thailand – Flooding remains critical in Southern Thailand as continuous heavy rain causes river levels to rise, leaving Pattani town underwater.

All 12 districts of Pattani are now submerged, affecting over 200,000 residents. Authorities confirmed one additional death, bringing the province’s total flood-related fatalities to three. In Pattani Municipal Area, floodwaters exceed 50 centimetres on roads, forcing closures.

The crisis has spread to Satun Province, where a large surge of water has hit the Satun Municipal Area, flooding the fresh market and impacting 20 communities. All seven districts of Satun are now affected, and over 80 schools have been closed. Travel is severely hampered as key roads are impassable. (TNA)
