BANGKOK, 2 September 2012  – The Social Security Office (SSO) is increasing the number of foreign language operators for its hotline, to support the country’s entry into the Asean Economic Community.

SSO Deputy Secretary-General Arak Prommani said more than 1.5 million employers and employees made their complaints through the SSO hotline: 1506 over the past six months. The hotline is meant to give advice and address questions posed by employers, employees and the insured 24 hours a day, with 120 lines available.

From January to June 2012, the number of calls to the hotline totalled 1,515,356. The most frequently asked questions were on benefits to be provided by the SSO, which persons are entitled to register with the SSO, how to register, and which hospitals where the insured can be admitted.

In 2013, the SSO will add personnel who will be able to give information in English and Asean languages, such as Burmese and Cambodian. This is to support the nation’s integration with the AEC in three years’ time, and to help foreign laborers under Thailand’s Social Security system gain convenience in seeking information and filing complaints.
