Sisaket Governor prepares long-term flood prevention plans

SISAKET, 23 November 2013 (NNT) – The Governor of Sisaket Province is preparing long-term flood prevention plans. 

Sisaket Province has experienced heavy flooding, which has affected the lives of local residents, over the past two months. A large number of homes have been damaged, especially in the Nong Hua Mu community in Pho sub-district, Muang district of Sisaket province.

Sisaket Governor Prateep Keeratiraeka said that he has instructed relevant agencies in the province to survey homes and property, as well as agricultural land, in the 22 districts affected by the recent flooding. The survey has been completed in 7 districts so far, including Khukan, Khunhan, and Phusing. After the survey is completed, the governor will request rehabilitation funds from the central government.

The Governor of Sisaket added that long-term plans to prevent flooding are being discussed among relevant agencies, especially the Sisaket Provincial Irrigation Office. The plans will involve managing water flow and storage in various reservoirs and dams to minimize the effects of flooding on the people.
