Security units ramp up suppression of drug use/abuse

Bangkok – The Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister, Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan, has ordered security agencies to continue suppressing illegal narcotic use.

The Spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, Lt. Gen. Kongcheep Tantravanich, said Gen. Prawit has thanked security officials, the Narcotics Control Board, and all related agencies for their efforts to eradicate the drug trafficking networks, in keeping with the government policy.

The Deputy Prime Minister has ordered security agencies and border area units to remain on high alert to block and suppress drugs smuggling into Thailand, as well as proactively working with local communities to help prevent drug use among villagers, especially in children and youth.

Police forces are instructed to frequently inspect entertainment venues and factories as well as enforce social and legal measures against drug abuses.

Educational institutes are urged to create drug prevention plans in campus and surrounding areas ahead of the next term and to help promote knowledge and immunity against drug use in society.
