Border tensions escalate as Cambodian villagers dismantle Thai barbed wire fence and clash with soldiers in Sakaeo.

SAKAEO, Thailand — Tensions flared along the Thai–Cambodian border in Ban Nong Chan, Khok Sung district, Sakaeo province, on August 25 at around 1:00 PM. Dozens of Cambodian villagers gathered at the disputed boundary area after local authorities on the Cambodian side broadcast announcements urging people to mobilize. Cambodian military, forestry, and land officials were also reportedly present.

The situation escalated when a group of Cambodians dismantled barbed wire fences erected by Thai soldiers to prevent encroachment. They threw objects at the Thai military, injuring one officer.

Reports indicate that more Cambodians continued to arrive at the site while Thai forces reinforced their presence to prevent the unrest from spreading.

Observers noted that loud music was being played on the Cambodian side, apparently to boost morale and pressure Thai security forces stationed along the border.

As of the latest update, the standoff remains tense with Thai soldiers maintaining tight security and security agencies in close contact with central authorities to monitor developments and prepare further measures if necessary.
