The pickup truck climbed the curb and slammed into the station gate late at night — the driver, with only 2–3 months of experience, admitted he meant to hit the brake.

BANGKOK, Thailand – A 36-year-old man mistakenly hit the accelerator instead of the brake, causing his Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck to surge forward and crash into the gate of Yannawa Police Station late Sunday night.

The incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. on June 30 as the driver, identified as Mr. Apichai, was descending from the Si Lom Expressway and attempting to make a right turn onto Surasak Road, next to the police station. Security camera footage captured the vehicle veering off course, mounting the sidewalk, and slamming into the station’s sliding gate.

Police officers on duty were visibly startled by the sudden impact. The gate was left badly damaged—bent and nearly detached from its track. Fortunately, there were no injuries, and the front of the pickup truck sustained only minor damage.

Apichai, who exited the vehicle unharmed, told officers he had intended to brake but accidentally stepped on the accelerator. A breathalyzer test confirmed his alcohol level at 0%, aligning with his claim of not having consumed alcohol. He also admitted that he had only been driving for about 2–3 months and was familiar with the area, which made the mistake all the more unfortunate.

Police charged him with reckless driving causing damage to government property and issued a traffic fine of 2,000 baht. (TNA)
