Bueng Kan – Cool weather and blooming red lotus flowers in Bueng Kan have attracted photo-happy tourists to the province.

The Red Lotus Sea of Bueng Kan province’s Porncharoen district, a 3,000 Rai pond full of distinctly red lotus blossoms in Santisuk Village, attracted large crowds over the past holiday weekend with both locals and visitors snapping photos of the annual attraction.

The blossoming has contributed to the local economy with long-tailed boat operators providing rides through the pond at 100 baht per trip to tourists. The flora has been boosted from the cooler weather, with highs at midday only topping out at 21 degrees Celsius.

Don Ya Nang Sub-District Municipal Authority is developing the site to be a environmental conservative tourist attraction and is holding the “Amazing Nong Lerng Pondside” event to promote local tourism.
