BANGKOK, 28 June 2015 (NNT) – The Ministry of Public Health will enforce the Computer-Related Crime Act to punish those who have spread false of news about MERS infection in Thailand. All 36 at-risk people who have been in close contact with an Omani man infected with the virus have shown no symptoms of the disease.

Acting Permanent Secretary for Public Health M.D. Surachet Sathitniramai said the MERS rumors spreading in the online media caused confusion and panic in the society. He said the ministry took this matter seriously and called on the media and the public to fact check information before sharing it.

M.D. Surachet added that the ministry was an official source of information about MERS in Thailand and suggested people call the hotline 1422 or visit the Facebook page “Thai Su MERS” for further information.
