Prince Mahidol Award 2025 honors U.S. innovators in medicine and global public health

Prince Mahidol Award Foundation announces the 2025 laureates, recognizing groundbreaking contributions in medicine and public health ahead of the January 2026 ceremony at the Chakri Throne Hall.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Prince Mahidol Award (PMA) Foundation, under Royal Patronage, has announced the Prince Mahidol Award Laureates for 2025.

This year’s results are as follows:

– In the field of Medicine, Dr. Terry Dean King, MD, from the U.S., was awarded the prize for his outstanding achievements in developing medical innovations and for his contributions to improving the quality of life of patients with congenital heart defects worldwide through the advancement of minimally invasive treatment technologies, which have benefited the health and well-being of hundreds of millions of people around the world.



– In the field of Public Health, Professor Dr. Walter C. Willett, MD, MPH, Dr.Ph, from the U.S., was awarded the prize for his pioneering research in the field of nutrition, which has had a profound impact on global public health promotion and on the formulation of preventive public health policies, thereby benefiting the health and well-being of hundreds of millions of people worldwide.



Established in honor of HRH Prince Mahidol of Songkla, known as “The Father of Modern Medicine and Public Health of Thailand,” PMA recognizes individuals or institutions with outstanding and exemplary contributions to the advancement of the international medical and public health services. Each award consists of a medal, a certificate, and a prize in the amount of USD 100,000. The Award Presentation Ceremony is scheduled to be held on 28 January 2026 at the Chakri Throne Hall. (PRD)
