
CHIANG RAI, Thailand – Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra visited Phaya Mengrai District in Chiang Rai province on June 28 to inspect flood-affected areas and offer direct support to affected communities. The Prime Minister emphasized the need for immediate relief and long-term solutions following what officials described as an unprecedented flood event.
Government spokesperson Jirayu Huangsap reported that the Prime Minister received a detailed briefing on the flood situation that began on June 27, affecting five districts, 10 subdistricts, and 32 villages. A total of 4,405 households were impacted. Infrastructure damage included three road sections, two public health facilities, and approximately 500 rai of rice fields.
Local and national agencies have collaborated to evacuate residents from flood zones to temporary shelters and ensure their safety. Agricultural damage assessments are ongoing, and relevant departments have been instructed to expedite aid to affected farmers.
The Prime Minister instructed all government agencies to develop short-, medium-, and long-term plans to prevent similar disasters in the future and report their strategies directly to her.
During her visit to Ban Sop Pao, the Prime Minister personally greeted residents, asked about their living conditions, and checked on access to clean drinking water, food, essential supplies, and care for vulnerable groups including the elderly, young children, and bedridden patients. She expressed heartfelt concern and promised full government support to restore and rebuild the community.
Later, the Prime Minister visited Wat Santikhiri in Phaya Mengrai to continue offering encouragement and distribute survival kits to flood victims. (PRD)
