BANGKOK, Thailand – A 34-year-old truck driver shocked motorists when he drove his 14-wheeler the wrong way down Bang Na–Trat Road, narrowly avoiding several collisions. When stopped by police, the driver claimed sleep deprivation had left him disoriented.

The incident occurred early in the morning at kilometer 47 inbound toward Bangkok on Theparat Road (Bang Na–Trat). The white Hino truck was seen driving against traffic, endangering other road users. Police from Bang Pakong Station ordered the driver to pull over at km 48.

Upon questioning, the driver, Kritsada, said he was heading to Rayong but didn’t know the correct route and believed that driving this way would somehow get him there. Officers, surprised by his reasoning, took him to the station for further questioning and fined him for reckless driving that endangered others.

His girlfriend, who was in the passenger seat, told authorities they had rested at a gas station in Chonburi and resumed driving around 6:00 a.m. She explained that while traveling in a parallel lane at km 44, Kritsada suddenly made a U-turn into the express lane and began driving against traffic. When she asked where he was going, he shouted, “I’m going to die anyway,” leaving her shaken and terrified.

Kritsada later explained that his daily delivery schedule leaves him severely sleep-deprived, which led to confusion and the dangerous maneuver. He apologized to other motorists affected by the incident. (TNA)

The driver claimed he was disoriented due to extreme fatigue from daily delivery work.
