PM Yingluck: Qatar trip, a great success

BANGKOK, 17 May 2012  – The Thai prime minister has reiterated that her latest official trip to Qatar has been a great success for both nations. 

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said that in this week’s official visit to Qatar, she has discussed numerous bilateral collaborations, such as Thailand’s LNG purchase deal and Qatar’s planned future investment in the country.

Both nations also brought up the issue of cooperation in infrastructure and transportation development between Thailand and its neighboring countries.

PM Yingluck said that related ministers from the two governments have been assigned to continue the discussion of all issues while Thailand’s Board of Investment has been instructed to study all relevant laws and regulations to facilitate Qatari investment.

Moreover, Qatar has expressed its interest in Thailand’s farming industry and its produce.

The Thai prime minister also stated that the Qatari government has confirmed her about the lifting of its ban on Thai chicken meat, which will come into effect within 2 weeks.

Other topics of discussion between the 2 nations included Thailand’s offer to help Qatar in the construction of basic infrastructure needed for its upcoming hosting of the 2012 World Cup and the medical assistance for this big event.

All in all, the Thai premier stated that her latest trip is a big success.
