PM Paetongtarn confirms ‘Digital Wallet Phase 3’ is still pending Cabinet review, with no final decision made on its disbursement schedule.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra announced on Tuesday that the government has not yet finalized the timeline for Phase 3 of the digital wallet scheme, citing the need to review input from all relevant agencies amid unexpected global economic developments and U.S. tariff policies.

Following a Cabinet meeting at Government House, the Prime Minister said the digital wallet plan had not been brought to the Cabinet today and remains under review. Key agencies such as the National Economic and Social Development Council and the Bank of Thailand have provided new opinions, which need to be carefully considered to ensure the project’s effectiveness in stimulating the economy.

When asked about rumors that the government may cancel both Phase 3 and future phases of the project to reallocate the budget toward countering U.S. tariff measures, the Prime Minister dismissed the claims, stating, “There has been no resolution to cancel the program.” She emphasized that the project is still in the public consultation phase and that all feedback will be used to assess whether the plan can deliver the greatest benefit to the nation.

Regarding ongoing behind-the-scenes talks with the United States, Paetongtarn confirmed discussions are ongoing and will be disclosed when the timing is right. She insisted the plan remains within the 90-day decision-making window and is being overseen by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira. The Prime Minister also assured the public that any changes or decisions will be explained transparently and guided by Thailand’s best interests. (TNA)
