PM appoints PRD to promote ASEAN agenda for complete understanding

BANGKOK, 8 May 2015 – The Prime Minister has appointed the Public Relations Department (PRD) to promote the benefits of the ASEAN citizenship and the integration of the regional community in order to achieve a complete public understanding on the subject, says a spokesman.

Prime Minister’s Office spokesman Capt Yongyuth Maiyalarp has revealed the Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha’s remark on Thailand’s preparations towards the integration of ASEAN Community at the government house.

According to the spokesman, the meeting has appointed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to upgrade its organizational structure in keep with the 2016-2025 10-year strategy.

The Prime Minister is reported to have urged agencies under the Security Pillar to priority on thwarting the illegal migration issue, as well as the solutions for the haze disaster and clean water access, by appointing these agendas in the working plan that allows ASEAN states to help solve them together.

On the Economic Pillar, the Prime Minister has appointed related agencies to determine the direction for the next 10 years that focuses on the utilization of the acquired budget for maximum benefit, and to take care on the matters of visa and immigration.

On the Socio-Cultural Pillar, the Prime Minister has appointed the PRD to convey the benefits of entering the ASEAN Community to the public and to create the public understanding on becoming the ASEAN Citizen, while government officials will have to concentrate on improving their English language skills, for better communications and negotiations.

The Prime Minister has also requested related agencies to consider creating cooperation with neighbouring countries on tackling regional issues such as haze disasters, wildlife trade, human trafficking, and improving public access to clean water.
