BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul carried out a humanitarian flight in Udon Thani, serving as a Thai Red Cross volunteer pilot to transport donated organs under the “Heart on Wings” mission. The operation, carried out on December 30, involved flying a donated heart to support a patient awaiting an urgent transplant.

The premier arrived at Udon Thani International Airport, where he was received by the provincial governor and senior officials, before departing to deliver the organs for life-saving transplant procedures.

Anutin has participated in the Heart on Wings program since 2014, when he served as minister of public health. He has completed more than 80 such flights, assisting more than 200 patients nationwide, and has received honors from the Thai Red Cross Society and the National Institute for Emergency Medicine. The Udon Thani mission was his third since assuming office as prime minister.

The donated organs came from a 41-year-old male donor who had been declared brain-dead. The donation included one heart and two kidneys, marking the third heart donation of the current fiscal year at Udon Thani Hospital. (NNT)
