PHUKET, Thailand – The Phuket Tourist Police have increased beach patrols and ordered multilingual signage following social media reports of indecent exposure and public decency violations by tourists at Rawai Beach.
On March 6, 2026, Pol. Lt. Col. Ekachai Siri, Chief of Phuket Tourist Police Station 1, sent officers to the site to maintain public order and enforce local laws. The investigation found the incident occurred on a secluded 100-meter stretch of Rawai Beach, accessible only by a 200-meter footbridge. During the inspection, about 20 tourists were present. Officers issued verbal warnings and explained Thai legal regulations on public conduct to those on-site.
Working with the Rawai Subdistrict Municipality and in line with provincial policy, authorities are taking two steps to prevent future incidents. Patrols at secluded and popular tourist sites will be increased, and the municipality will install clear, multilingual signage outlining public space regulations.
The Tourist Police are also working with embassies, consulates, hotels, and tour operators to share guidelines on cultural practices and legal restrictions. These efforts help ensure international visitors understand and respect local customs, supporting Phuket’s reputation as a world-class, family-friendly destination. (NNT)
