PHUKET, Thailand – The Public Relations Department (PRD) is hosting the Annual General Conference of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) from August 19 to 21 in Phuket province. The three-day event will convene media leaders and policymakers from across the region under the theme “Media for People, Peace, and Prosperity.”
The conference will explore how media organizations can better serve public interests in today’s complex information environment. As a state-owned agency, the PRD has established itself as a provider of accurate and accessible information while actively working to counter disinformation. Organizers will prioritize strengthening what they call “information immunity” to help citizens navigate the challenges brought by rapid digital transformation.
A major component of the program will examine the media’s role in promoting peace during periods of conflict and disagreement. The PRD advocates for fair and balanced communication that prevents escalation of division while encouraging constructive dialogue between opposing parties. The Thai government intends to use this conference to showcase its approach to problem-solving and regional cooperation through peaceful diplomatic channels.
The economic impact of media will receive considerable attention during the sessions. The PRD views media as a powerful tool for driving prosperity and raising living standards by promoting Thai entrepreneurs, highlighting technological innovation, and creating broader access to economic opportunities.
The AIBD General Conference 2025 is expected to provide a comprehensive examination of the media’s multiple functions throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Participants will analyze how media can simultaneously serve as protection against misinformation, a conduit for cross-cultural understanding, and an engine for social and economic advancement.
