Over 1,200 homes in Kalasin, Uttaradit damaged from summer storm

KALASIN, April 5 — More than 1,200 homes in four districts of the northeastern province of Kalasin were damaged by a summer storm, one of the strongest in 10 years.

Officials from the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office in Kalasin have inspected the situation in four districts which were hit hard by the summer storm, namely Nong Kung Si, Huai Phueng, Na Khu, and Kuchinarai and found that 1,253 homes were damaged.

The worst hit was Khai Nun sub-district in Huai Pheung district where 612 homes were damaged, mostly with their roofs torn away by the strong wind.

More than 3,000 rai of rubber plantation were also damaged.

In the northern province of Uttaradit, strong winds started at around 2am this morning and three sub-districts in Tron district were affected from the severe weather.

Some 37 homes in Ban Kaeng, Hat Song Khwae and Nam Ang sub-districts were damaged, while large trees have fallen blocking many roads, but there are no reports of injuries.
