BANGKOK, 21 June 2015 – The chairman of a committee under the National Reform Council has denied rumors that the reform council is planning to reject the draft Constitution.

The Chairman of the NRC’s committee on anti-corruption Pramon Sutivong said that the National Legislative Assembly’s unanimous vote to amend the Provisional Constitution was an acceptable decision.

Such a development has effectively shortened the term of the NRC, which will now end within two months.

Mr. Pramon said that, despite a shorter term in office, members of the reform council will still be able to complete their tasks before handing over any unfinished missions to the next legislative body that will carry on with the reform efforts.

He also stated that rumors of an NRC plan to reject the draft charter is groundless, adding that the reform council will decide what it thinks of the draft Constitution only after reviewing its content.
