BANGKOK, Nov 25 – Thailand’s Ministry of Interior has ordered provinces in areas at risk of being severely affected by cold weather, especially the northern and northeastern Isan regions, to prepare for the coming winter weather and warn residents to prepare for the cold months ahead.

Interior Minister Gen Anupong Paochinda said that many areas across Thailand are seeing lower temperatures due to the winter season, particularly in the northern and northeastern regions, with falling temperatures affecting the lives of residents.

The minister said he ordered the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation to help relieve the situation in affected areas, provide assistance to cold-affected victims, and prepare measures to cope with the coming winter weather.

The minister said the disaster response agency is responsible for surveying areas at risk of being most affected by the lower temperatures, inspecting the villagers need for winter necessities and creating a list of cold-affected victims in order to plan and provide the best assistance to those in need as quickly as possible.

The department must closely monitor weather forecasts, to inform the public to prepare for colder weather.

Meanwhile, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department Director General Chatchai Promlert said the agency has prepared all sectors to handle the cold weather crisis, planned quick and thorough assistance for cold-stricken victims, while also setting up proactive readiness measures for the winter to alleviate the public’s hardships.
