New 4th Army Area commander takes charge of southern security missions

BANGKOK, Thailand – The Fourth Army Area held a formal command handover ceremony on October 2, 2026, at Vajiravudh Camp in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province to mark the transition of leadership to Lieutenant General Chakrit Ucharatana as Commander. General Norathip Poinok, the newly appointed Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army, formally transferred command, responsibilities, and ongoing security missions in southern Thailand to Lt. Gen. Chakrit.


The ceremony included paying respects at sacred sites within Vajiravudh Camp, signing official handover documents, and transferring the 4th Army Area flag. The ceremony was attended by senior military officers, unit commanders, and government officials.  Lt. Gen. Chakrit stated that he will continue the region’s missions, policies, and principles to the best of his ability. He pledged to lead personnel fairly, prioritize their welfare, and promote unity in fulfilling the 4th Army Region’s responsibilities while strengthening its role as a key security institution in southern Thailand. Gen. Norathip served as Commander of the 4th Army Area from October 2025. During his tenure, he oversaw security missions in the South and prioritized personnel welfare and morale.

Lt. Gen. Chakrit is a graduate of Armed Forces Academies Preparatory School Class 28 and Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy Class 39. He previously served as Commander of the Santisuk Task Force and Deputy Commander of the 4th Army Area, gaining extensive operational knowledge and understanding of local conditions in the southern border provinces. He intends to use this expertise to foster community understanding, support multicultural societies, and promote sustainable peace in the southern region. (NNT)
