National Rice and Farmers Day set for 5 Jun

BANGKOK, 6 May 2011  – The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is preparing to celebrate the National Rice and Farmers Day on 5 June 2011 at the Department of Rice inside Kasetsart University in Bangkok. 

According to Permanent Secretary for Agriculture and Cooperatives Chalermporn Phirunsarn, the event will be arranged to honour and boost morale of farmers as well as encourage people to realise the importance of rice and farmers who are the backbone of the nation.

The event will feature exhibitions of rice-related projects of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Farmer leaders and youth representatives will be invited to meet the prime minister. Awards will also be presented to farmers with outstanding farming practices.

Other highlights of the event are forums of discussion among farmers, exhibitions on rice production technology, sales of cheap rice and related rice products, demonstrations on farming practices by farmers from the four regions of the country.
