BANGKOK, Thailand – Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Jiraporn Sindhuprai has hailed the country’s new marriage equality law as a historic milestone for human rights during a Pride reception hosted by several embassies.

The Minister delivered a speech as the government’s representative at the EU-AUS-CAN-UK Pride Reception 2025. The event was jointly hosted by the embassies of the European Union, Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom in Thailand.

Minister Jiraporn said the passage of the marriage equality law is a significant historic achievement. She stated it not only reflects progress for the LGBTQIA+ community but also shows the power of love, justice, and human dignity. She noted that amending the Civil and Commercial Code with inclusive language signals that Thai society is moving toward genuine equality.

The minister highlighted that Thailand is the first country in Southeast Asia to legally recognize same-sex marriage, making it a beacon of hope for the entire region. She concluded by thanking the host embassies for their continuous support for human rights, which she said is crucial for Thailand’s journey toward sustainable equality. (NNT)
