Lamphun declares two districts cold-wave disaster zones

LAMPHUN, Dec 27 – Thailand’s northern province of Lamphun has declared two districts disaster zones affected by the current cold spell on Thursday as the temperature kept dropping for three consecutive days.

Lamphun Governor Pinit Harnvanich said 38,992 persons in 134 villages in Thung Hua Chang and Li districts were affected as temperatures dropped below 15 degrees Celsius for the third day.

The governor said he has coordinated with concerned agencies to provide warm clothing and blankets to affected residents to prevent illness, particularly among children and the elderly.

Local residents have also been warned of possible fire hazard caused by dry weather as well as road accidents due to thick fog.
