Bangkok – The Ministry of Public Health has set up a panel to investigate the death of a 2-year old girl following a complaint from her parents.

Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Jedsada Chokdamrongsuk said that his ministry is expediting its effort to develop a nationwide one-stop medical service to increase public access to medical care and lower the number of deaths.

Regarding the death of the 2-year old girl at Somdet Phrayupharacha Sa Kaeo Hospital, Dr. Jedsada said an investigation is now underway to prove whether the alleged closure of the hospital’s ER department was in fact the cause of the child’s death.

Despite the claim, the Permanent Secretary said every hospital is equipped and ready to provide around-the-clock medical care to every patient. The family of the girl will be compensated a maximum of 400,000 baht according to Section 41 of Medical Treatment Compensation Act.
