BANGKOK, Thailand – Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), met with senior Thai officials during the 2025 IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C., to discuss Thailand’s preparations for hosting the 2026 meetings.
Georgieva held talks with Deputy Finance Minister Vorapak Tanyawong and Bank of Thailand Assistant Governor Chayawadee Chai-Anant, focusing on the country’s readiness to host next year’s event. The IMF pledged support for both logistics and program planning.
The Managing Director then toured Thailand’s promotional booth at IMF Headquarters, where she viewed exhibitions of handwoven textiles and cultural artifacts highlighting Thai heritage and craftsmanship. She also participated in a traditional Thai dance performance, giving delegates a preview of the cultural experiences planned for 2026.
The booth and cultural displays aim to generate enthusiasm for the upcoming meetings—Thailand’s first time hosting the event in decades. (PRD)
