UBON RATCHATHANI,17th August 2019 (NNT) – Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has conducted an activity in Ubon Ratchathani.

Her Royal Highness, yesterday opened AIA Baan Ba Hee Border Patrol Police Learning Center in Khemarat district of Ubon Ratchathani province. The 22nd Border Patrol Police Subdivision built the school in 2017 as requested by a local community committee, for children to have a school nearby. Sangwan Taengburana and his family donated nine rai of land for the construction of the school with support from LICA Foundation (AIA).

The school was opened on May 16, 2018 and currently has seven teachers provided by the 22nd Border Patrol Police subdivision and one other teacher. There are currently 55 schoolchildren from kindergarten to Prathom 5 levels. The school is scheduled to extend classes to Prathom 6 level in 2021.

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn followed up on projects launched as royal initiatives, to be carried out by the Learning Center such as the monitoring of schoolchildren’s health. Most schoolchildren were found to have good health. The health promotion hospital in Tambon Nong Phue provided health-related knowledge to parents of both skinny and fat schoolchildren, and advised them to closely follow their nutritional program.

Five schoolchildren were found to need improvement in reading and writing Thai. The Learning Center has promoted the reading and writing of the Thai language and assigned homework to the schoolchildren. The Learning Center has received support from various agencies such as the Sister School cooperation agreement with Hua Qiao Charity Foundation School which is a private school teachijng Chinese in Ubon Ratchathani. Two scholarships are granted yearly to Prathom 6 schoolchildren to advance their studies at Mathayom level.

The school’s library was opened with support from Rajabhat Ubon Ratchathani University which arranged categories of books and promoted a reading habit among schoolchildren. Tambon Nong Phue Health Promotion Hospital provided support for a nursing room in the school, and medicine and medical supplies as well as a nurse teacher.

An agricultural project for school lunches has raised egg-producing chickens, and ducks, along with catfish and pigs; there is also a good supply of mushrooms and vegetables. Water comes from an artesian well on the premises of the Learning Center.

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn suggested that more fermented fertilizers be produced and rice straw be used in the farming of mushrooms. Parents of the schoolchildren were also advised to start household accounts to help reduce costs and increase income.

The Office of Non-Formal and Informal Education’s skills development center in Khemarat district, has promoted the weaving of Mudmee fabrics and the making of key rings and hairpins from Mudmee fabrics. These items were put on sale in a walking street in Khemarat district and made a good profit for the schoolchildren.

Her Royal Highness visited a royal medical unit and a royal dental unit which have been assigned to tend to local villagers. HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn admitted a couple of brothers as patients for the treatment chronic Epilepsy and complications under Her Royal Highness’s care.
