Government gearing up for road accident prevention on New Year holidays

BANGKOK – Interior Minister Anupong Paochinda has adopted the “Safety Thailand” concept and other road accident prevention plans to reduce road accidents during the 2016 New Year festival. 

Gen. Anupong presided over a meeting between a road accident prevention committee on preparations for the implementation of road accident prevention and reduction on New Year long holidays, especially the seven-day period from 29 December to 4 January.

The Cabinet has approved a provision of devices to measure vehicle speed and alcohol breath testers as requested by the police.

The minister said that he was not satisfied with solutions to road accidents in the past. He also stressed that the society needed to raise awareness of road safety issues and the authorities needed to enforce the laws more effectively.
