PM Paetongtarn thanks French President Macron for backing peaceful border talks with Cambodia and deeper Thai-French strategic ties across defense, energy, and trade.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra revealed details of a recent phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, in which both leaders pledged to deepen bilateral ties and elevate Thai-French relations to a strategic partnership.

According to Paetongtarn’s official statement, the two discussed cooperation in areas such as space technology, defense, and clean energy. The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for France’s support of Thailand’s free trade negotiations with the European Union and its bid to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), which she said would yield long-term mutual benefits.


On regional matters, Paetongtarn reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to peacefully resolving the Thai-Cambodian border issue through existing bilateral mechanisms. She noted that President Macron expressed understanding and support for Thailand’s position. The Prime Minister also emphasized Thailand’s efforts in combating transnational crimes, especially online scams that threaten global security.

Both leaders extended invitations for official visits at a mutually convenient time, marking a step toward stronger diplomatic engagement. (TNA)
