MUSCAT, Oman – Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow has secured an assurance from Oman to assist Thai merchant vessels navigating the volatile Strait of Hormuz, marking a positive step in regional maritime security coordination.
Following an audience with His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, Sihasak noted the Sultan’s appreciation for the strong bilateral ties between the two nations. The minister’s subsequent discussions with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi focused primarily on the escalating Middle East conflict, with both parties calling for a swift return to regional peace.
“It is a positive sign that Oman has agreed to transmit our vessel data to Iran,” Sihasak said, emphasizing the need to protect Thai shipping interests currently caught in the regional standoff.
The Deputy Prime Minister also expressed gratitude for Oman’s previous support, specifically citing the case of the Mayuree Naree.
The diplomatic push comes as Thailand seeks to mitigate the economic impact of maritime disruptions in the Middle East, with Sihasak reaffirming that Thailand remains committed to peaceful resolutions in the region. (TNA)
