Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow says Thailand’s participation in the ASEAN and APEC summits in South Korea helped boost international confidence and deepen ties with major global partners.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow hailed the recent ASEAN and APEC summits in Gyeongju, South Korea, as a diplomatic success for Thailand, emphasizing that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s meetings with key world leaders helped strengthen relationships and build confidence in the country’s direction.

Sihasak said the timing was particularly significant, as the government had been in office for less than a month when the summits took place. During the meetings, the Prime Minister met with all ASEAN leaders and held important discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Japan’s new Prime Minister. “It was not only about formal talks inside the conference halls,” Sihasak said, “but also about personal interactions outside the meetings, which are vital to deepening relationships and mutual trust.”

The summits also addressed pressing global issues, including transnational crime, cybercrime, and online scams. Thailand actively presented constructive proposals to strengthen regional cooperation in these areas — efforts that were well received by other member economies, according to the minister.

Sihasak added that the Prime Minister used the opportunity to engage with both government and private sector leaders to showcase Thailand’s policy direction. “The Prime Minister may have only been in office for four months, but he has a long-term vision. What he emphasized is not just about this government, but about strengthening confidence in Thailand’s future and its forward momentum,” Sihasak said. (TNA)
