Deputy Government Spokesperson Ploytalay Laksameesangchan announces temporary measures easing replacement of lost license plates and vehicle tax stickers for flood-hit motorists.

BANGKOK, Thailand – The government has simplified the process for flood-affected motorists to replace lost license plates or damaged annual vehicle tax stickers. Motorists can submit applications without the original vehicle registration book until November 30, 2026.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Ploytalay Laksameesangchan announced on October 4, 2026, that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn has instructed Ministry of Transport agencies to monitor flood conditions and assist affected residents. Under temporary measures from the Department of Land Transport (DLT), motorists may request replacement license plates at any transport office by presenting a copy of the vehicle registration book, if available. If not, the owner may use an original national ID card. Authorized representatives must provide a power of attorney. The fee is 100 baht per license plate, plus a 5-baht application fee.

Owners who have lost their vehicle registration books must apply for a replacement at the transport office where the vehicle is officially registered, for 55 baht. Meanwhile, owners of financed vehicles cannot request a new registration book but may obtain a vehicle registration certificate at any office nationwide by presenting their original identification card. The certificate fee is 75 baht for cars and 35 baht for motorcycles.

The deputy spokesperson emphasized that these temporary measures, directed by the Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, are designed to reduce administrative burdens. By streamlining the replacement process, the government aims to help motorists resume normal activities and operate their vehicles legally without any concerns. (NNT)
