Fitness made fun at Central Festival

Latin-flavored aerobics took center stage at Central Festival Pattaya Beach Monday as the beachfront mall kicked off weekly Zumba classes for the public.

Rattanachai Sutidechanai, chairman of the Pattaya City Council’s tourism committee, emceed the dance fitness show, which featured performers from Ministry of Dance Entertainment and Promotion and professional Zumba instructor Jo-Jo Alfonso.

With the message that getting fit can also be fun, Zumba performers including the Life Stage Team, Salsa Demonstration and Sumba Dance invited the public to join in.

Operated by Zumba Fitness LLC of Florida in the United States, Zumba is a dance-fitness program created by dancer and choreographer Alberto Perez in Colombia during the 1990s and marketed worldwide through classes and branded merchandise.

The program combines Latin and international music with dance in an effort to make exercise fun.  Zumba classes are offered through licensed instructors in more than 90,000 fitness center locations in 110 countries with 10 million participants.

Central Festival will offer free public lessons from 5-8 p.m. every Sunday.
