BANGKOK, Thailand – The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and the Department of Energy Business (DOEB) have begun a nationwide inspection of fuel depots to ensure compliance with the Prime Minister’s emergency directives.
On March 21, 2026, Pol. Maj. Woranan Srilum, Director of the Consumer Protection Crimes Bureau and DSI Spokesperson, and Chatchai Khunlohit, Deputy Director-General of the DOEB, inspected PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited (OR) in Phra Khanong, Bangkok.
This operation follows an emergency directive from Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to address and prevent potential fuel shortages related to the situation in the Middle East. The mandate requires all oil traders to report production volumes, inventory, and total sales by 6 p.m. daily. Traders must also publicly disclose ex-refinery prices to support transparent and efficient resource management.
The DOEB Deputy Director-General stated that the OR depot was chosen for inspection because it is a main distribution hub for service stations and independent wholesalers in Bangkok and nearby provinces. Officials confirmed that the facility complies with price-posting regulations and provided guidance on accurate inventory reporting. The Deputy Director-General noted that OR is one of eight key sites inspected simultaneously across four provinces. The goal is to ensure prompt fuel delivery to consumers and prevent artificial shortages.
Pol. Maj. Woranan stated that the DSI monitors the accuracy of price signage, reviews fuel exports, and verifies required production reserves. Any irregularities could affect domestic market stability. Minister of Justice Pol. Lt. Gen. Ruthapol Naowarat will join the inspections this afternoon, followed by a press conference to share details on the findings and any legal actions. (NNT)
