BANGKOK, 10 July 2014  – The Election Commission (EC) and the Ministry of Interior will jointly update the list of eligible voters in order to better facilitate the upcoming round of national polls.

Election Commission Secretary General Phuchong Nutrawong made the comment after a meeting with Mr. Wibul Sanguanpong, Permanent Secretary for Interior yesterday to discuss Phase 3 of the National Council for Peace and Order’s roadmap to democracy.

In the meeting, he asked the Interior Ministry for cooperation in addressing certain issues such as overlapping electoral areas and under population in 28 villages where there are only a few voters. The EC also urged the ministry’s assistance in updating the database of eligible voters by means of conducting a national census.

The two sides also discussed preparations for the establishment of a sub-district level democracy center which will provide knowledge about general elections, paving ways to the national polls.
