Deputy PM Phumtham says Andaman unrest is under close review, urges patience to avoid harming tourism confidence.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Phumtham Wechayachai acknowledged that the recent bomb incidents in Phuket, Krabi, and Phang Nga have negatively affected Thailand’s tourism sector. He called for patience as authorities continue their investigation to identify those responsible.

Speaking at Government House, Phumtham said the situation is still under assessment by police and national security agencies, and that it is premature to speculate on motives or identities. He noted that while media reports may heighten public concern, tourism activities in the area are still operating as normal under existing rules and regulations.

Interior Ministry Permanent Secretary Ansith Sumpantharat added that authorities are thoroughly questioning suspects already in custody. He confirmed that security measures have been heightened, especially in popular Andaman Sea tourist destinations.

When asked whether recent events targeted the region’s tourism economy, Arsaith stated that all local agencies have been instructed to remain vigilant. He also noted that any discussion of canceling bilateral activities with Cambodia, such as the 75th-anniversary celebration or infrastructure aid, would depend on future National Security Council (NSC) agendas.
