Deputy Finance Minister Vorapak Tanyawong resigns, denies involvement with international scam networks, and warns of legal action against accusers.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand’s Deputy Finance Minister, Vorapak Tanyawong, announced his resignation today, vehemently denying claims that he was linked to an international scam network and vowing to take legal action against those spreading false allegations.

In a statement, Vorapak stressed that the accusations were “distorted and defamatory” and insisted that he has never had any involvement with illegal financial schemes. He highlighted his over 30 years of experience in banking and financial management, both in Thailand and abroad, and emphasized that his career in politics was motivated purely by a desire to contribute to the nation, not personal ambition.

Vorapak addressed attempts to link him with the BIC Group and BIC Bank, clarifying that while he had met executives like Mr. Yim Liak and knew some associates socially, he had never been involved in their management or business operations.

He also refuted claims that he served as a nominee for Financiera Cyrus or had any connection to Cambodian entities associated with scams. Vorapak outlined his past investment activities, noting that his share purchases were fully legal, financed transparently, and aimed at business growth. All corporate involvement ended when he sold his shares in 2024 and resigned from all management positions.

“I have never engaged with transnational crime networks, and all my work has been transparent and verifiable,” Vorapak said. “I am reserving the right to pursue legal action against anyone spreading false information and will fully cooperate with all authorities to clarify the facts.”

He explained that his resignation was intended to prevent personal controversies from affecting government operations and to maintain the integrity of his office. Vorapak affirmed his commitment to honesty and transparency, citing his use of a single mobile number, a single credit card, and the state-owned Krungthai Bank for transactions, all open to scrutiny.

“Ultimately, I have served with honesty and integrity, under the limited timeframe of this government and the expectations of the public. I will now dedicate my time to defending my reputation in court,” Vorapak concluded. (TNA)
