BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Defense has welcomed the recent diplomatic progress between Thailand and Cambodia, describing it as a strategic success that has helped reduce tensions along the border without military confrontation. The agreement, reached through negotiations between both countries, includes the repositioning of troops to their earlier locations as agreed in 2024.
Deputy Minister of Defense Gen Natthaphon Nakpanich commended both governments and military commands for choosing dialogue over conflict. He stressed that the adjustment of troop positions should not be framed as a withdrawal or retreat, as both sides are acting based on a shared commitment to manage the situation through peaceful and coordinated means.
The outcome is expected to reinforce existing bilateral mechanisms, which continue to play a central role in resolving issues at the state, military, and local levels. The Defense Ministry also urged the public and media to exercise caution when sharing content that could lead to misunderstandings or reignite tensions.
Gen Natthaphon expressed appreciation to military personnel for their discipline and composure, and to the public for their unity and support during the past weeks. He also acknowledged the role of the media in helping the public stay informed with timely and accurate reporting. (NNT)
